ITINERARY
Discover many of Rio de Janeiro's most traditional places: start with a cable car ride from the city center to Santa Teresa over Arcos da Lapa and visit the Ruins Park, Escadaria Selarón, Passeio Público, Cinelândia, and Confeitaria Colombo.
Start your tour at the Center, where you'll take the cable car to the bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa. You will pass by Arcos da Lapa, the aqueduct used to connect the water from Santa Teresa to the city center and one of the most traditional postcards in Rio de Janeiro. In Santa Teresa, you will experience a rather interesting local atmosphere.
Walk along the bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa, a bucolic area in Rio de Janeiro. Located on a hillside, Santa Teresa has become a district of cultural interest because of its architectural value and privileged location, famous for its narrow and sinuous cobblestone streets and a favorite place for many artists and tourists. A climate similar to Montmartre, in Paris.
Visit Ruins Park (closed on Mondays), a public park with an art gallery built around the ruins of a mansion. Take a few minutes to enjoy the city's scenery, especially the downtown area and Sugarloaf Mountain. Then, you'll descend the colorful Selarón Steps, one of Rio's main attractions, and arrive at the Lapa neighborhood, the region with the most traditional nightlife.
Take a walk through Passeio Públio, the oldest public park in South America, to reach Cinelândia, a lively spot in Rio thanks to its bars, restaurants, and cultural attractions. Among many notable buildings in the area, you'll notice the Municipal Theater, the most traditional theater and opera in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the National Library, the most important library in Brazil.
Your last stop will be at Confeitaria Colombo (closed on Sundays), a permanent member of all the rankings of “unmissable coffees” around the world. Enjoy opulent art nouveau decor with huge stained glass windows, tiles, and mirrors imported from France, Portugal, and Belgium. You can finish your tour by tasting one of the traditional Brazilian snacks - such as chicken coxinha - or desserts - such as brigadeiro, in one of the most prestigious places in Rio de Janeiro from the beginning of the 20th century
